This year the University was delighted to welcome back applicants from India to study General Medicine. Due to the recent Diwali celebrations, we decided to tell more about this event and its significance first-hand. Please read a story from our 1st year student Singh Romaraj Jaybinod about the holiday and her impressions of celebrating it away from home.

We also take this opportunity to thank the University's International Students' Club for their full support and assistance.

«Diwali, also known as Festival of lights is one of the most anticipated and celebrated festivals in India. For an Indian this celebration is also special because the whole family gathers together to celebrate this festival.

I was so fortunate to have people around me who took great effort in arranging this event so far away from home for me. Diwali being synonymous with oil lamps. Candles were arranged for the celebration. The mesmerising display of lights during Diwali is something never to be forgotten and always awe inspiring full of wonder.

One of the main significant aspects of Diwali is what it signifies, this celebration signifies knowledge over ignorance, light over darkness, good over evil and positivity over negativity. The festive spirit and celebration brings a sense of togetherness among people.

Among each other even among people with bad relations, families and friends come together to celebrate, exchange gifts, and share delicious meals. The atmosphere is filled with laughter, joy, and a spirit of unity. During Diwali, I have witnessed the power of relationships and the importance of strengthening bonds with loved one.

Diwali is deeply rooted in rich cultural traditions and rituals that have been passed down through generations. From performing puja (prayer ceremonies) to creating intricate rangoli designs, each ritual holds symbolic significance. These traditions not only connect us to our heritage but also provide a sense of continuity and belonging

Fireworks are an integral part of Diwali celebrations, adding a touch of excitement and spectacle to the festivities. The colorful explosions in the night sky create a breathtaking display, captivating both young and old.

Diwali truly embodies the spirit of unity, love, and hope, making it a cherished festival that holds a special place in the heart of Indians».
